Wednesday 1st June marked a significant day for COBALT, as the airline launched their first flight from Larnaca to Athens.
The flight, which was scheduled exclusively for journalists and distinguished guests, marked the company’s official launch of operations.
Right after the landing, a brief ceremony was held at Sofitel Athens Airport hotel, in the presence of journalists from Cyprus and Greece.
During the ceremony, the Chairman of COBALT, Mr. Gregory Diacou, highlighted: “Recognizing the popularity of Greece as a destination by Cypriots, we chose Athens to be the destination for our first flight. We also recognize the importance of Athens, and that of the whole country, for our island’s residents. To this end, COBALT will be operating 3 daily flights from Larnaca to Athens, bridging Cyprus to Greece, on a daily basis”.
COBALT’s first flight was held exactly two weeks after the issuance of its Air Operator Certificate from the Cyprus Department of Civil Aviation.
Flights to the United Kingdom and other European destinations are planned to start later on in the month of June. By the end of June, COBALT plans to add three more aircraft to its fleet.
According to the airline’s plans, COBALT will be flying to Athens, Thessaloniki, Heraklion, Chania, London, Manchester, Dublin and Paris, with more destinations to be added soon.
COBALT plans on building on the success of the new-generation flying model, by offering services that will not only fill the gap left by the closure of Cyprus Airways, but also by strengthening the image of Cyprus as an all-year-round destination and a regional hub. The company will also focus on innovation and new technologies.
