Responding to the environment’s distress signals over the use of plastic bags, ALPHAMEGA Hypermarkets, as part of their corporate social responsibility, introduce reusable shopping bags.
Every year, 500 billion plastic bags are used and discarded by consumers across the globe, with 6.4 million tons of plastic ending up in the oceans. This results in the death of 100,000 aquatic organisms per year, due to plastic waste in which they get trapped, while small pieces of plastic may make their way into the food chain, by releasing chemicals in fish, which in turn may be passed on to humans.
The bags are available in four modern designs, each with its own message on the struggle to save the environment, and sold for €1.39 each.
By buying reusable bags, you help protect marine life, since part of the proceeds from their sale will go to CYMEPA (Cyprus Marine Environment Protection Association), which encourages and actively assists efforts for effective prevention of all forms of sea pollution
