It has its own history…

The ‘Neophytos Chandriotis’ library, which was inaugurated  last month, at the Panayia Theoskepasti high school by Paphos Bishop Georgios, has its own history, which reveals the quality of our students and teachers, as well as their respect to human values.

The high school had won Opap’s ‘Neophytos Chandriotis’ award last December for its acclaimed production of Don Quixote. The award, named after the excellent basketball player and student Neophytos Chandriotis, who sadly passed away at the age of 22, inspired the school’s students and teachers.

They chose to use the award as seed money, to which Opap added, to build a library at their school dedicated to the memory of Neophytos Chandriotis.

Opap’s Marketing Director Agathe Mannaridou expressed joy and respect for the student-teacher initiative.

“Their responsible creativity expresses respect for their role, using the reward for their own achievement to the benefit of all the school’s students, current and future,” she said.

“It also expresses respect to a wonderful young man of Cyprus, Neophytos, who also honoured his parents, his teachers, and the values and principles that make a human being.”

The Paphos Bishop said the library, and the way it came to be, is a “unique work”.

Neophytos’ father, teacher Demetris Chandriotis, expressed praise for the high school’s initiative, donating a series of books for the library.

As well, Neophytos’ grandfather, renowned teacher and writer Elladios Chandriotis, offered the books he published to the library.
