
The Bank of Cyprus celebrated World Blood Donor Day with a blood donation campaign honouring volunteer blood donors who participate in blood donation campaigns. Within this context the bank, in cooperation with the ministry of health and the non-governmental organisation Reaction organised a voluntary blood donation at the headquarters of the group at Ayia Paraskevi. Dozens of staff members from the group and many other volunteers attended the event. The slogan for the event was ‘What is your type? Someone needs your blood type.’
The event was addressed by volunteer commissioner Yiannis Yiannakis, who referred to the importance of World Blood Donor Day as well as the contribution of volunteer blood donors to cover the needs of our blood banks. He also referred to the Bank of Cyprus’ contribution to the creation of a culture of volunteerism and solidarity.
Director of the blood bank Socrates Menelaou spoke about the significant contribution of the volunteers, while corporate social responsibility officer of the Bank of Cyprus Elli Ioannidou said through Pancyprian Blood Donation Week initiatives the bank will continue their efforts to meet the needs of the blood bank and also to attract new volunteer blood donors.
The first blood donation were held in Paphos, Larnaca and Famagusta.
