Eleven lucky people enjoyed a unique trip to New York city recently after taking part in a draw while enjoying their favourite Somersby cider. The trip included a fantastic programme of guided tours, walks and night outings to some of Manhattan’s hottest spots, with all the expenses covered by their favourite cider.

The winners had the opportunity to visit the famous financial district with its imposing skyscrapers, enjoyed the magnificent view from the 104th floor of the One World Trade Centre, visited the 9/11 memorial, Wall Street, the Empire State Building, China Town, Times Square, Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park and enjoyed a cruise to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

The highlight of the trip was the Garden Event organised by Somersby on the rooftop of the hotel where the winners stayed, where they tasted the real Somersby experience. The rooftop was turned into a huge exotic garden that offered many surprises as well as many cocktails based on the different flavours of the famous cider. The experience was unique and the winners from Cyprus had the opportunity to get to know winners from other countries that took part in the same Somersby contest, such as the Czech Republic, Australia, New Zealand, England, Iceland and others.

Traveling as a family can, and should, be fun – both for children and parents. And Emirates take care for that, as young flyers get special attention on Emirates’ flights like their senior keepers and attendants do. This is how the whole family enjoy a seamless journey, before, during, and after the flight.

Tasty meals, non-stop entertainment, especially designed toys and goodies are available on board in order young travelers to get satisfied and leisurely spend their flight time. Emirates ensure that its services and amenities inspire the greatest of imaginations – and there are a lot of when it is about kids’ fantasy and artistry.

Once the boarding is completed, you will hear the highly trained cabin crew to inform the young passengers that there are wile animals on board – do not be afraid, they will adore it. Little adventurers can share their journey with new furry friends from around the world like Brett the bear, Mia the manta ray, ChaoChao the alligator and Savannah the elephant. All of them have joined the growing Fly With Me Animals family on board and are handed out completely free to younger travelers on all Emirates Flights. The characters represent the different regions of the world that the airline flies to and help young passengers to learn more about animals and their natural habitat.

Children can wrap up with their buddy in the eco-friendly Emirates blankets, use theirs as a bag or attach a cuddly companion to their stroller when they’re on the move. And they can also explore the airline’s Fly With Me Animals magazine, which is full of puzzles, games and comes with colored pencils.

Keeping children occupied and happy on flights is challenging, especially for their parents, so Emirates goes on step beyond, by investing on inspiration for tomorrow’s explorers. The airline has teamed up with the Lonely Planet Kids’ travel experts and created packs that inspire older children to explore more of the world. Young passengers quickly transform themselves to passionate explorers who can delve into a retro, travel-themed bag or lunch cooler filled with educational books designed exclusively for Emirates’ flights. Inside they can also find amazing world facts and creative crafts, something that will help them with recording memorable moments along the way in their travel journal.

When it comes to food, Emirates makes tray tables look like the home ones. A broad range of meals for children and babies are offered to young flyers who give the thumbs up to on board meals. Kids aged between two and 12 can pick from Emirates menu of children’s favorites and their food will be served on a special, colorful tray. The airline also gives to young adventurers a snack box filled with treats to enjoy along the journey, or to tuck in to while watching a kids’ movie. Moreover, the well-trained cabin crew will help parents that may have brought their own baby meals with food and bottle warming.

Of course, Emirates take care of adults’ nutrition as well. Emirates offer the opportunity to start exploring their destination before they have even arrived – delicious dishes from the heart of the region’s culture are served into the world’s largest flying restaurant. Passengers can taste global flavors and savor meals, made with the freshest ingredients, while they may complement their meals, by choosing from Emirates’ enhanced lists of complimentary wines, beers, hot and cold drinks.

Families come first for Emirates and the airline gives special consideration to the things a family need to make its trip comfortable and convenient. This is why there are special family check-in desks at Dubai International airport, alongside shops for kids’ treats at Duty Free. Furthermore, in airport lounges parents can use the mother and baby room to change and feed their little adventurer, and children can enjoy video games in safe and stylish play areas.

Both adults and kids travelers will enjoy the 14-time “best inflight entertainment system” winner at the Skytrax awards, ice system, with up to 3,500 channels of entertainment, a huge music collection, over 100 games, and almost 900 films, including Cypriot movies.

Travel with your family or friends, by taking advantage of the November sale campaign

There have already been enough reasons for travelers to visit Dubai in autumn; now there are even more. Emirates runs a special sale campaign for passengers who will be traveling as groups from Larnaka International Airport to ravishing Dubai between November 10-30, offering flights only from €568 per person.

Both Dubai’s mild autumn temperatures, and the high-quality services that Emirates always offers are the ideal combination for a trip to a close destination to Cyprus, just a month before Christmas period.

For passengers travelling either with families or with friends, Dubai offers all the latest trends of the contemporary tourism: accommodation; food; sightseeing; leisure; luxury and value-for-money shopping; and the original desert feeling. Dubai is the absolute destination offering numerous options for entertainment at shopping malls, parks, museums, and beaches.

From the world’s largest theme parks to sky diving with a view, there is fun around-the-clock in Dubai. Dubai Parks and Resorts is a splendid theme park and the first of its kind in the Middle East. Boasting three themes parks, one waterpark, a dining and entertainment complex and luxury hotel, it is set to become a must see on any trip to Dubai holidays. You will love exploring the Hollywood-themed motion gate Dubai with blockbuster-inspired rides and attractions. Younger guests are well-catered for at LEGOLAND Dubai –the first in the region and seventh globally- as well as LEGOLAND Water Park, to cater specifically for 2 to 12-year-olds.

Swimming in November is something that Cypriots love doing, and Dubai’s picturesque and cost-friendly beaches offer the perfect scenery for that. Jumping in and out of the crystal waters at Kite Beach, snapping a quintessential selfie and photos in front of Burj Al Arab, grabbing a juice or a burger at Jumeirah Beach, or enjoying stunning sunsets at Black Palace Beach, are just a few of the numerous options you have during your stay at the city.

For those who want to renew their wardrobe content, glittering Dubai offers innumerable market choices and will bring every Cypriot even closer to the world-renowned brands. Dubai Mall, Mall of Emirates and several other shopping centers will pay you back no matter how posh your demands are. Furthermore, Emirates announced the expansion of its lifestyle partnerships, in order to continue offering exclusive benefits and greater convenience to its customers. The latest initiatives with local premium retail developer, Emaar Malls, launched earlier this year the Emaar Malls Rewards Programme, offering customers a chance to earn Skywards Miles when they purchase goods, food or leisure experiences at The Dubai Mall.

While exploring Dubai, food will be your loyal follower. From culinary delights created by Michelin-star awarded chefs to takeaway snacks on the beach, the city offers a vast variety of choices. World famous chefs and food entrepreneurs are attracted by Dubai’s constant gentrification, while homegrown food outlets are sprouting up across the four corners of the city.

A trip to Dubai is now even easier, as Emirates offers special fares to its passengers, for tickets booked between November 4-8. Should you travel to Dubai between November 10-30, you can find a flight only from €568 per person, all included. The sale campaign applies to groups of passengers between 2-8 individuals, and tickets must be booked in same passenger name record.

University of Nicosia Ranked among Top 100 Universities in the EECA Region

UNIC is the first university in Cyprus to be ranked by QS World University Rankings, placing number 91 in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) Region

The 2019 “QS World University Rankings: EECA”, released on 31 October 2018, place the University of Nicosia (UNIC) in the top 100 universities in the region, in which approximately 1,800 universities operate. More specifically, UNIC was ranked number 91 in the Emerging Europe and Central Asia (EECA) Region, out of the 450 universities that had applied and were assessed (and ultimately 300 ranked) this year by the global rankings agency.

The landmark ranking success, with UNIC being the only university based in Cyprus to be ranked by QS World University Rankings, is noteworthy in a region characterised by dynamic growth in higher education, particularly when contrasted against the large number of universities counted in the broader EECA region (which includes 26 countries, among them, Russia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Croatia, Romania, Estonia, Lithuania, Turkey, Ukraine).

“With the 2019 QS EECA Region Ranking results, our University deservedly joins a select number of universities ranked by QS World University Rankings”, noted Professor Constantinos N. Phellas, Vice Rector for Faculty and Research at UNIC. “We are especially proud of our placement, firmly within the top 100 universities of this year’s expanded ranking, particularly after having been assessed alongside more than 450 other institutions in the region”, continued Vice Rector Phellas.

The ranking results, which form part of the most comprehensive university assessment of its kind, reinforce the University of Nicosia’s global outlook and are a testament to its broader internationalisation efforts; already awarded earlier in the year by the QS Intelligence Unit, when UNIC became the first university in the EU to achieve a 5-Star QS Rating for Online/Distance Learning.

Commenting on this development, the Rector of the University of Nicosia, Professor Philippos Pouyioutas, heralded this as an important milestone for the University and for Cyprus Higher Education more widely. “The ranking achievement is a strong testament to the quality of our faculty members; to the University’s continued focus on research and innovation; and to our growing international reputation”, concluded Rector Pouyioutas.

There is a need in Cyprus for patients suffering from tetraplegia following spinal cord injury and also brain injury or stroke for assessments as to how their upper limb function can improve, either through targeted physiotherapy or through reconstructive surgery.

Responding to this need, the team of Tetrahand Cyprus was created in March 2016. The team comprises of world established Professor Jan Friden of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil Switzerland, Mr Constantinos Kritiotis, Consultant Hand Surgeon in Iasis Private Hospital Paphos and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester, UK, Sabrina Koch-Borner, Physiotherapist of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre and Christiana Fakonti, Physiotherapist of the Paraplegic Department of Nicosia General Hospital. The aim of this service is to provide reconstructive surgery and advanced patient specific rehabilitation to this demanding group of patients.

The main procedures that are carried out are :

  1. Surgery to reestablish shoulder and elbow control
  2. Surgery to reestablish a functional grip
  3. Spasticity reduction surgery which can lead to better hygiene and posture of the patient as well as in some cases with functional improvement.

So far, the team has assessed over 25 patients and performed ten successful reconstructions in eight patients.  The patients are operated in Iasis Private Hospital in Paphos and rehabilitated in the Paraplegic Department of Nicosia General Hospital. More complex and demanding patients are referred to the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwil, Switzerland.

In parallel, we also have an academic development as evidenced by our presence in two International Conferences, the Tetrahand World Congress which was held in Switzerland in August 2018 and the FESSH Annual Congress which was held in Copenhagen in June 2018. Further to the above, we also provide mini observerships for international surgeons. We were more than happy to welcome Mr James Bedford, of Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust and Mr Michael David, of University Hospital of Coventry and Warwickshire who attended our work from 21/10/2018 to 26/10/2018 here in Cyprus.

We aim to continue and expand our service in order to provide a comprehensive neurohand service for the people of Cyprus and also patients from neighboring countries as well.

A world class development

Limassol Del Mar is a fully licensed, pioneering and luxurious project, which constitutes a developmental milestone of high standards, not only for Cyprus but also worldwide.

The construction works continue in full swing, following the schedule closely and uninterruptedly throughout the day and night. An impressive online timelapse video records the great construction progress, since the project has already reached the phase of the formation of the towers.

Worth mentioning is also the fact that the overall investment of the project results from the income already received by current sales, which ensures its completion. Based on the construction plan, the delivery time frame becomes a luring advantage for buyers and a record for the Cypriot market.

Currently, hundreds of people work around the clock at the project’s construction site; a number that constantly increases. It is estimated that the number of staff, suppliers and collaborators for the project will exceed the 1000 people. This is a positive fact for the local economy of Limassol and Cyprus, extendedly.

Regarding the sales progress, Ms Eleftheria Voskaridou, Marketing Manager of Limassol Del Mar, mentioned: “We are happy to announce that Phase I is sold out – all apartments of Towers A & B have already been sold. The success continues with the sales of the apartments of the ‘Signature Collection’ tower, which have already exceeded our expectations. The project was chosen by buyers from 15 different nationalities around the world including Cyprus.”

The multi-award winning Limassol Del Mar is a world-class development, in the ultra-desirable coastal Limassol, with an unobstructed sea view from all the apartments. This landmark development consists of luxury residences, five star facilities and services as well as high-end shops and restaurants.
